Father Soos, an upstate New York parish priest and school principal, with fellow plaintiff Father Stamos, challenged Governor Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 “lockdown”, which limited religious gatherings to ten persons in a June 2020 lawsuit, along with the families of two Catholic students and four Jewish congregants that discriminated against people of faith.

Fr. Steven Soos has said: "In March 2020 Governor Andrew Cuomo shut down church services, meanwhile large department stores and large commercial businesses were allowed to stay open. Chris Ferrara and the Thomas More Society came to our rescue. They took our case. We had a ruling in our favor that allowed us to have mass with attendance, not full attendance, safe attendance. We ask for God's guidance and strength upon them, because there's a lot more work that needs to be done to defend the rights of citizens in our church in our country. May God Bless them."
