Martin Cannon is Senior Counsel at the Thomas More Society, where he has dedicated over three decades to defending life, family, and freedom. A graduate of Creighton University, earning both his B.S. and J.D. degrees, Cannon has been a tireless advocate for pro-life causes since beginning his legal career in 1988.
Based in rural Pottawattamie County, Iowa, Cannon has successfully handled over 40 cases related to Leroy Carhart’s notorious abortion facility in Bellevue, Nebraska, and has represented pro-life sidewalk counselors and activists across the country. His notable work includes securing the release of Fr. Norman Weslin from federal charges, defending Iowa’s fetal heartbeat law, defending pro-life activist Lauren Handy against FACE Act and "Conspiracy Against Rights" charges, and advocating for the First Amendment rights of groups like Church@TheRock in New York. Cannon's efforts have also contributed to the closure of multiple abortion clinics by protecting the rights of counselors to offer life-affirming alternatives.
With a deep commitment to justice and a wealth of trial experience, Cannon has advised legislators, testified before committees, and authored influential legal briefs, including a defense of marriage in Nebraska.
